RapidTanLike most girls I am a huge spray tan fan especially this time of year when it’s still cold and the lack of sun doesn’t do anything for my already pale skin!

I’ve been using spray tans professionally for around a year or so now and I’ve stuck to one brand – I’m not going to say which as I don’t believe in talking down a brand. Lets just say they are a customer services nightmare and we’ll leave it at that!

I’m an avid reader and poster of Salon Geek so when I decided to switch tanning brands it was go to place to get opinions and insight into what tans other beauty therapists were using.

Suntana was a brand that popped up over and over again. Now, before looking into different tans I had only heard of the main big names like Xen Tan, Sienna X, Fake Bake etc however there were rave reviews about Suntana. Not just because of their amazing customer service but because of the product as well. They were also nominated for ‘Best Tanning Supplier’ by the Beauty Guild

When I got in touch with them for some samples they were more than happy to send me some free of charge, not only that but they turned up the next day – 4 really good sized sample bottles for me to try.

Light (coconut), medium (cherry), dark (chocolate) and after dark (blackberry). Each shade has its own fragrance which I was really excited to smell and they smell divine! I was intrigued to see if this fragrance was the same on the skin as it was in the bottle.

The hard decision was to decide on which shade to use. I settled for medium as I needed more colour than usual for a birthday party I was going to. The dark and after dark versions I think will be too dark for my skin however I have guinea pigs lined up to try.

I set up my spray gun and a good friend of mine was ready to spray until a disaster happened – my spray gun died!!! Mortified is not the word and I’m currently saving for a new one to get as soon as possible! All was not lost though as the solution could be applied by using a tanning mitt. This isn’t something I have come across before with spray tan solutions but I thought I would give it a go. Silly me forgot that the solution is a liquid so I spilt some over my newly tiled floor ooops! However once I got used to pouring a bit onto my tanning mitt I was away.

Before Application

I had to work quickly as this is one fast drying tan however it applied like a dream and was super easy to blend in. The smell was divine! Even my boyfriend commented that he liked the smell which was different from the usual ‘eurgh you stink of digestives!!’ The thing I liked most about the tan after application was the glow it gave to my skin, it made it look really healthy and my skin was really soft as well.

I slept in it over night and showered it off the next morning and I must say I was VERY impressed with the colour. I was a little scared that because I didn’t spray it on it would look different but it looked amazing. No more pale skin and no horrid fake tan smell.

After;

Overall I’m super happy with Suntana and I cannot wait to try the other shades out. I’m going to try the light tan next as I think this would look lovely as an everyday tan. As soon as I’m able to fund a new gun I will use the darker shades on my friends.

Suntana also offer a mousse solution which is super cheap at £3.99 for a 200ml bottle and probably easier to apply with the mitt method!. They also offer a rapid tan which I’m excited to get my hands on – this means you can tan in as little as 1 hour which is fab if you have a last minute night out planned.

As with all brands of tan you need to make sure that you get your prep right and that you keep your body moisturised so the tan fades evenly. Below are my top tanning tips:

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate!! Scrub away dead skin in all of the areas that are driest like elbows, knees, ankles and wrists. Make sure that you use an oil free exfoliator – using oil based products will mean that any oils will sit on top of the skin which can make false tan look patchy.
Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise!!! Again using an oil free moisturiser, go over your driest areas and make sure that you really work it in to your hands- this will ensure that you don’t have the orange hand look sported by many a TOWIE cast member!

Make sure that if you need to shave or wax that this is done at least 24 hours before the application of your tan.

When washing off don’t use a shower gel or oil. This can strip the tan leaving you back at square one.
Exfoliate and moisturise regularly to keep the skin soft and to ensure fade off is even. This also creates a perfect base for you to re-apply your tan.

My hairdresser in Preston uses Suntana products.
It’s great on a Friday to get a spray tan ( cherry is my fave) and a hairdo and feel a million dollars !
I have the mousse to top up my face , and it really does look natural and my skin glows
    Well done Suntana !

  2. Tanya Hyde says:

I love Suntana also Susan. As a salon owner i think the price and quality is just amazing! Smells make me hungry though lol 🙂

  3. Ann Utter says:

This is an amazing review of Suntana! Even though her gun died she still applied it with a tanning mitt and had great results! (that made me laugh) But atleast now i know i can apply it with a mitt and still look fab!

  4. BettyBoopDoinTheDoop says:

I used to use Fake Bake. The results were always great and they have a fab range but I decided to look around for a more resonably priced product. Im so glad I did because thats when I found Suntana! I LOVE it!! Sooo many of my friends have been converted…. especially the self tan mousse which is great for those last minute nights out! 🙂

  5. Maxine Brown says:

This is a good review, I am happy with my current solution but might be worth a try. The fragrances sound lovely! Might be worth trailing a few before the summer rush! 😉

  6. Alison Bridge says:

I’ve been using Suntana for 18 months now and all my clients love it. The colours are natural and they smell fantastic. I’ll be sticking with it for sure. i hope they keep their prices lower than Sienna. i used to use Sienna but it went too pricey. however I think Suntana is better all round. I’m really pleased I discovered it.

    • Tanya Hyde says:

Sienna x’s prices are just too high! It just goes to show that even if your solution is expensive, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better. We know 😉

      • Alison Bridge says:

Yes that is correct. The price increase was too much plus their postage charges. It is a good product but Suntana I think is better. Sienna spend a lot on PR, advertising and marketing – hence the prices.

        • Tanya Hyde says:

Oh yeah, they do spend a lot on PR. I have never seen Suntana advertise (apart from the odd banners on Salon Geek) Let’s hope they don’t put there prices too high. What would you pay for lets say, a liter bottle of solution?

          • Alison Bridge says:

I pay 29.99 + VAT for Suntana. I wouldn’t really want to pay more than this.

  7. Kelli says:

Love,Love,Love Suntana…. Im sienna trained and used to use their products, buts its way too expensive.. I have converted all my clients, i have been spraying for 3 years and never had a bad report on it, and the rapid tan is becoming alot more popular too, alot choose to wear it over night (even my 10%) clients, and have said its the best fragrance, doesnt smell biscuity and they adore the colour.! I only use up to 14%, and not one tan has looked too orange. Delivery is superfast via courier which is trackable too. I wouldnt chAnge!

    • Tanya Hyde says:

When i ordered my samples and they said i should get them next day, i thought ‘this is too good to be true!’ That alone is brilliant! Nothing worse than ordering stock and not being able to get it.

    • Alison Bridge says:

I use Rapid Tan on myself and it is very good and a great colour. No clients have asked for it yet so I’ve only used the 250ml bottle on myself. I think the fragrance is a little bland to be honest BUT I don’t get the horrible DHA smell from it which is just fine.

      • Tanya Hyde says:

I want to try the Rapid Tan! How is the colour, fade off and overall tan? Worth buying a 250ml bottle?

        • kelly says:

Rapid tan is great. I usually let it progress over night but it gives a nice colour after a couple of hours. Great for that last minute decision for a night out. Also fades evenly 🙂

  8. kiss-my-tan says:

WOW!! This is brilliant! Think I will have to definitely get samples from these! I am just starting up with my spray tanning so I do need to choose very soon. It is always best to try solution yourself isn’t it. But the smells sound amazing! I’ll buy this solution just for that lol x

  9. sophie-jones says:

The last time I tried Suntana I didn’t think it was that good. I did love the smells but thought the fade off wasn’t as good as the other solutions I tried. I did try it over a year ago though so maybe its changed? Plus I was still trying out. Maybe I will try it again now I know how to properly look after my tans 🙂 x

  10. olivia says:

WOW, think Suntana has quite a following. I couldn’t resist, email sent to try the brand myself (asked for 10% as this is my main % used) and we shall see. – Olivia xx

    Hello all,

I do not have enough words to describe how great Suntana is as a spray tan and as costumer service.

I work with in the industry from 5 years now, i started as a fully qualified beauty therapist when I decided to start tanning. I worked with and for deferent spray tan companies from which Tantrick aka Wowfactor let me down complectly and found them extremly rude.

Decided to rebrand a couple of years ago and I must say Suntana was the one who impressed me the most in every way possible. From free samples and super quick delivery to the high quality products and costumer care. Boosted my business more then ever. I was never more pleased.

Suntana been there for me since then every day and I must say I am the most proud therapist to use Suntana.

    Xx
