I’m getting tans that look lovely and even at rinse, then go patchy around elbows and knees by day three. Is that usually aftercare and dry skin, or am I still getting distance/overlap wrong in those areas?

Would love a practical checklist for what to change first — prep, spray pattern, or client moisturising habits.

If it’s perfect at rinse and breaks on day three, aftercare and dry skin are the usual culprits — elbows and knees drink moisturiser and shed faster. Still worth checking you’re not overloading those spots; a lighter pass and slight increase in distance helps.

Prep with a light barrier on thick skin, blend well, and tell clients to moisturise twice daily from day one (not oil-heavy right after rinse). Exfoliating only when it’s time to remove, not mid-wear.

If the same client patches every time, look at their shower gel and gym habits — hot showers and scrubbing kill elbows first.
