Looking at my first proper HVLP under about £250. How do MaxiMist, SX and TE compare for noise, UK spares, and mobile use? Anything you’d actively avoid if you’re mostly doing home visits?

I need something reliable rather than fancy — spares availability in the UK matters to me.

Under £250 you’re in starter-turbine territory. MaxiMist has a long track record with UK mobiles for parts and familiarity; SX and TE can be fine too but check who actually stocks tips, cups and filters locally before you buy.

For mobiles, prioritise manageable weight, a hose that doesn’t kink, and noise you can live with in a spare room. Avoid no-name imports with zero UK aftercare — a cheap gun that can’t get a needle next month isn’t a bargain.

Whatever you choose, budget for spare tips and a cleaning kit on day one. Technique and cleanliness matter more than the badge on the motor.
